9 Days Uganda Gorilla Tour Itinerary
Day 1: ENTEBBE – KAMPALA
Meet and greet at Entebbe International Airport by our Uganda safari rep. He will help welcome you and help seamless arrival formalities.
Enjoy a short transfer to your hotel in Kampala. It is here that you will be briefed on the 9-day Uganda gorilla tour. You will have your night on bed and breakfast at Hotel Africana.
Day 2. KAMPALA- KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
After an early morning breakfast, enjoy a transfer to Fort Portal. Your arrival in Kibale Forest National Park will be in time for lunch.
Enjoy a short relaxation at your Kibale forest accommodation. In the afternoon or visit the crater lakes area. Your dinner and overnight will be at Primate Lodge.
About Kibale Nationa Park
Kibale National Park is a national park in Southern Uganda. It is protecting moist Evergreen Rain Forest. It is 766 square kilometers (296 sq.Mi) in size and is located between 1,100 meters (3,600 ft.) to 1,600 meters (5,200 ft.) In elevation.
Despite encompassing primarily moist evergreen forest, it contains a diverse array of landscapes. Kibale is one of the last remaining expanses to contain both lowland and montane forests.
In eastern Africa, it sustains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest.
Kibale National Park is home to a total of 70 mammal species. Most famous of the 13 species of primate including the Chimpanzee. It also contains over 375species of birds.
Kibale adjoins Queen Elizabeth National Park to The South. Together they create a 180km-long corridor for wildlife between Ishasha. This is the remote southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. There is also Sebitoli in the North of Kibale National Park.
DAY 3: KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Start your Uganda gorilla tour day with an early Breakfast. This is to be followed by a transfer to the park HQ.
After briefing, go for chimpanzee tracking. You will also see and other primates including L’Hoest, red colobus, and blue red tailed. On this day of your Uganda gorilla tour you may also seethe gray cheeked mangabey.
Our guide who will give you detailed information on primates, forest, flora and fauna. In the afternoon you will visit the Bigodi swamp.
See other mammals and primates including the rare red Columbus monkey and the sitatunga. Dinner and overnight will be at Primate Lodge.
DAY 4: KIBALE – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park after breakfast. This will be through the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for most of the journey.
A game drive en-route may be rewarded by seeing a lot of wild animals. They would include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hyena and variety of antelope species.
After lunch, enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. You will see a lot of hippos and other animals may be seen drinking at water’s edge.
During this launch cruise you will have opportunity to take photographs. Game viewing and bird watching is also part of the cruise. You have over 550 resident species of colorful birds for you to enjoy.
Overnight will be at Kingfisher Mweya Safari Lodge.
About Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park is a 764 mi² (1,978 km²) protected area in western Uganda. It is the country’s most popular national park.
Queen Elizabeth NP is diverse and is home to over 95 animal species, more than any other park in Uganda. The park is also a popular destination for birders.
It has a species list of 612 birds, which is the largest of any protected area in East Africa.
Queen Elizabeth National Park lies on the floor of Africa’s Western Rift Valley. It starts from the base of the towering Rwenzori Mountains in the north.
It Stretches to the Ishasha River in the south and is bordered on the west by the Democratic Republic of Congo. Queen Elizabeth National Park straddles the equator line.
The park was founded in 1952 as the Kazinga National Park and was renamed in 1954 after a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. The park is quite scenic and boasts varius volcanic craters. Queen Elizabeth NP is truly special and has a lot to offer visitors.
DAY 5: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Today we have an early morning game drive. Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is a home of abundant wildlife with grassy plains, and volcanic craters.
You’ll have an opportunity to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog and Cape buffalo. Elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda kob, topi and bushbuck are also on the menu.
After lunch explore the Crater Lake region. You may also go to the traditional salt mining in Lake Katwe. Return to Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.
DAY 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK
Your day on this 9 day Uganda gorilla tour starts with an early breakfast. With picnic lunch boxes enjoy a transfer to Bwindi Rain Forest.
Pass through Ishasha where you will have an opportunity to see the tree climbing lions. You will drive through the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ area. this area is the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads.
Your arrival in Bwindi will be in time for dinner and overnight at Engagi Lodge.
About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is of the world’s most diverse regions. Bwindi is also one of Africa’s best places to trek to see the endangered mountain gorilla.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest neighbors the Virunga mountains on the Rwandan side. They are the two best places to see the endangered mountain gorilla.
Bwindi covers only 330 square kilometers. It is home to almost half the remaining wild mountain gorilla population.
This Unesco World Heritage Site is a jumble of dense tropical rain forests. It has steep hills and cascading waterfalls.
It has a magnificent diversity of fauna and flora. these includes a wide variety of primate species. There are reptiles, birds and butterflies.
It is good for birder keen to find the endemic birds species of the Albertine Rift. Bwindi offers you a chance to find 32 of them.
DAY 7: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy an early breakfast on this day of Uganda gorilla tour. A transfer to the HQ will have you briefed on gorilla trekking.
At 0800 hrs, go for gorilla tracking walking up steeply in the dense rain forest. This is through different animals’ trails allowing access to tourists. Gorilla tracking is an inspiring and wonderful adventure which one can’t miss.
The Gorillas are peaceful animals and it is an unforgettable experience to watch. Photography is allowed but only without the flash. Your dinner and overnight will be at Engagi Lodge.
DAY 8: BWINDI – KAMPALA
After breakfast, drive back to Kampala with a stopover for lunch en-route. You will have a stop at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers.
Here you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted. They are using methods passed down through the generations.
There will also be time to stop at the Equator for photographs. You will arrive in Kampala in the early evening. Drop off for overnight at Hotel Africana.
DAY 9: DEPARTURE
Depending on the departure time, go for a city tour or visit the craft markets. This is before transferring to airport to catch your flight back home.
