3 Day Uganda Gorilla Safari Itinerary
Day 1: KAMPALA- BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
You will be met by our Uganda safari rep at your Kampala hotel. This will be followed by a briefing on the 3 days Uganda Gorilla safari. Depart from Kampala early morning and drive south-west. You will have a stopover at the Equator for some photo moments. Another stop for lunch will be in Mbarara town.
Proceed through savannah grasslands seeing banana plantations and herds of Ankole cattle. The cattle are famous for their incredibly long curving horns. An ascent into the Kigezi highlands will take you to the “Switzerland of Africa”. They are called so as a result of the terraced farming doen here.
You will have time to enjoy the mountain scenery to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Your arrival will be in time for dinner and overnight at Nshongi Gorilla Resort.
About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda in East Africa. The park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and is situated along the Democratic Republic of Congo border next to the Virunga National Park and on the edge of the western Great Rift Valley.
This Uganda national park comprises 331 square kilometers (128 sq mi) of jungle forests and contains both montane and lowland forest and is accessible only on foot. Bwindi was gazetted as a national park in 1991 and declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1994.
The forest is one of the richest ecosystems in Africa, and the diversity of species is a feature of the park. The park provides habitat for some 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos and many endangered species.
Floristically Bwindi is amongst the most diverse forests in East Africa, with more than 1,000 flowering plant species including 163 species of trees and 104 species of ferns. The northern (low altitude) sector is rich in species of the Guineo-Congolian flora.
These include two species internationally recognized as endangered, Brown mahogany (Lovoa swynnertonii) and Brazzeia longipedicellata. In particular the area shares in the high levels of endemisms of the Albertine Rift.
Day 2: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Start your day on Uganda gorilla safari with an early breakfast. You will be transferred to the park headquarters. This will be at 0800hrs in time for briefing on the gorilla trekking. Later with an armed ranger, a guide and porters, embark on the trek.
Trekking gorillas will have you walk up steeply in the dense rain forest. You will go through different animals’ trails allowing access to tourists. Mountain Gorilla trekking is an inspiring and wonderful adventure which one can’t miss. The giant apes are shy and peaceful animals.
An encounter with the gentle apes or the mountain gorillas is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph. Later you will have the afternoon at leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at Nshongi Gorilla Resort.
Day 3: BWINDI NATIONAL PARK – KAMPALA
Start the last day of Uganda gorilla safari with an early breakfast. After checking out of the lodge you will depart. The drive back to Kampala will be characterized by a stopover for lunch en-route. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Kampala upon arrival.
