5 Day Travel Package Namibia Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek – Sesriem
Our Namibia safari rep will meet you in the morning. You will have some time for a briefing on the 3 day travel package Namibia. This will be between 08:00 and 08:30 at your hotel in Windhoek. Namibia’s Capital is surrounded by mountains.
Your travel package Namibia will pass first over the Eros Mountains. This will be followed by the Khomas Hoch-land Range. This takes you from the central Namibian plateau to grassy desert savannah. There will be a stop at Solitaire for petrol. You may as well have your lunch here.
Your 3 day Namib Desert safari continues to Sesriem. Your aim is for you to be there by late afternoon. A short excursion to the nearby sand dunes will do. This is to enjoy the sunset over the dunes and watch the colors glow. Return back to Namib Desert Lodge for dinner and overnight.
About Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei, located in the Namib desert one of the oldest deserts in the world, is one of Namibia’s most spectacular regions and is perhaps one of, if not the most photographed places in Namibia.
Sossusvlei, is a small salt pan, surrounded by sand dunes and the pan itself, together with the surrounding areas is commonly called Sossusvlei. It is Namibia’s scenic highlight situated 65km from Sesriem in the Namib Naukluft National Park.
The dunes in Sossusvlei form part of the Namib Sand Sea which was recently declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2013. The sand was transported by the Orange River in Lesotho and South Africa during flash floods millions of years ago, and was deposited at the mouth of the Orange River south of the Namib Desert.
The cold Benguella currents of the Atlantic Ocean then moved the sand northwards along the shoreline. Then the tides brought the sand onto the shore and the wind blew it inland some 60, 000 million years ago.
The spectacular red color of the dunes these days, is the result of the high iron content in the sand that changes the color through an iron oxidation process over years. The name Sossus literally means ‘a place where water collects’ and vlei is an Afrikaans word for ‘pan’.
Although this only happens once in every five years after good rains, the vlei or pan when filled with water by the ancient Tsauchab River, turns into spectacular lake flanked by ruddy and sparkling red dunes around it.
The pan retains water for a long time due to the high clay content and this attracts a large number of tourists as it is such an unusual sight.
Day 2: Sesriem – Sossusvlei – Sesriem
Your 3 day travel package Namibia start early. This is to enable you catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. You will pass through Sesriem and drive towards Sossusvlei. There will be sand dunes along both sides of the road. You will stop at the famous Dune 45.
If you feel fit may climb the dune. This will reward you with breathtaking view of the surrounding Namibian desert. It is here that you will enjoy your breakfast. This will be followed by a desert walk in the cool of the morning. There are chance of seeing gemsboks, springboks, black-backed jackals and ostriches.
As the day cools down you will have a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. You will later drive back to Namib Desert Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Sesriem – Swakopmund
Today your tour take you through Namibia, the country of contrasts. You will be travelling from desert to sea. It is on your way that you will cross the Tropic of Capricorn. Your 3 day travel package Namibia will traverse the Gaub and the Kuiseb passes.
This will take you down to the dry river bed at the bottom of the Kuiseb Canyon. You will later climb up the other side of the canyon. You will be out to a spectacular desert landscape unfold before you. This denotes your arrival at the coast. You will make a stop in Walvis Bay.
Here you will enjoy the view of flamingos and other birds in the lagoons. You will also make a visit to the salt works. Your accommodation will be at Cornerstone Guesthouse. This is booked on bed only to allow you sample the local cuisine.
Day 4: Swakopmund
You will start your travel package Namibia with breakfast in the morning. This is to be followed by an excursion to the seal colony. This is at Cape Cross, north of Swakopmund. It is here that you will experience thousands of fur seals at close range.
The rest of the day will be free with plenty of time to explore the town. Swakopmund is a very pleasant seaside town with lots of shops. There is a good stretch of beach and an open-air curio market.
It is however important to note that the Atlantic is quite cold here. There is also a museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium. Alternatively, there are various optional activities that can be arranged. These include a boat-tour with oysters and champagne!
You can have a scenic flights and micro-light flights over the desert. Quad-bike trips into the desert and over the sand dunes. You can go sand boarding, skydiving and many other activities.
This will be at a cost and your guide will discuss all the possible. Your accommodation will be at Desert Villa Guesthouse. This is booked on bed only to allow you sample the local cuisine.
Day 5: Swakopmund – Windhoek
Start your day on travel package Namibia early. Today you will return to Windhoek. The drive takes you by marble and gold mines. You will also visit Namibia’s largest craft market in Okahandja.
It is the administrative centre of the Herero people. Back in Windhoek you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Windhoek.
