Detailed 5 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Parc Nationale Des Volcanoes
Our Rwanda safari rep will meet you on arrival. This is either at the airport or your hotel in Kigali. Enjoy a briefing on the 5-day Rwanda gorilla trip. This is followed by departure driving to Volcanoes National Park.
It is a fun filled 3 hours drive. Enjoy the mountainous scenery that Rwanda is popular for. You will arrive in Parc Nationale Des Volcans in time for lunch.
The evening is spent on sightseeing and relaxing around the hotel. Your dinner and overnight will be at La Palme Hotel.
About Volcanoes National Park
This park is in the far northwest corner of Rwanda. Volcanoes National Park protects the steep rainforested slopes of the magnificent Virungas mountain range.
The park is also known as “Parc National de Volcans” (or PNV as it’s known by locals). It lies along the Virunga Mountains ecosystem. Here a there are 8 ancient volcanoes. These are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The park is just a short two-hour drive from Rwanda’s capital of Kigali. Volcanoes National Park is a central location for exploring some distinctly Rwandan experiences.
Avisit to the mountain gorillas is often at the top of visitor’s list. But the dramatic landscape also offers thrilling hikes. You also have an opportunity to visits to the fascinating golden monkeys.
PNV is also one of Rwanda’s conservation epicenters. This is where many non-profit organizations base their operations. Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking
Your Rwanda gorilla trip day will start early. This will be with an early breakfast. After getting your picnic lunch boxes you will proceed to the head office. This is in time for the briefing at 0800 hrs.
You will meet your armed ranger and guide. If you need porters, you can get one or two to help you. This is at a cost of course. It is time to tackle the day’s activity. You will venture into the forest trails in search of the apes.
Your trek follows the path of the mountain gorillas assigned to you. The trek can be quite tough due to terrain and time taken. You can take approximately 2-8 hours to undertake the trekking. Return to your lodge in time for dinner and overnight. This will be at La Palme Hotel.
Day 3: Golden Monkeys Tracking
Start your 5 day Rwanda gorilla trip early. This will be with breakfast before 0700hrs. Transfer to the park headquarters for briefing. In much smaller groups, you will set off to the forest. This is to track the rare and endangered Golden monkeys.
You will encounter other primate species as vervet monkeys and baboons. There are so many bird species and butterflies available in this forest. Your guide will help you to identify whatever animal, bird or insect you will meet. The guide will be ready to answer your questions about fauna and flora.
Return to your lodge in the afternoon. Your evening in Volcanoes will be at leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at La Palme Hotel.
Day 4: Visoke (Bisoke) Hike
Another early start on Rwanda gorilla trip day. You will leave the hotel quite early in the morning. This will be after breakfast at 0630 hours.
With the help of your guide, drive to the park entrance. It is from here that you start your hiking of Mount Visoke. The ascent takes between 1-2 hours depending on your fitness level.
The descent is pretty easy ad 1hour does it for many. You will enjoy a drive back to your Volcanoes accommodation for lunch. Afternoon will be spent in relaxation mode. It is good to order for a massage to take away the fatigue. Your dinner and overnight will be at La Palme Hotel.
Day 5: Volcanoes – Kigali – Departure
The day on Rwanda gorilla trip will start with an early breakfast. This is followed by departure to Kigali.
On arrival you will embark on a city tour. The tour includes the Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi. You will also visit the colorful markets and craft centers. End your Rwanda gorilla trip with a transfer to the Kigali International airport.
