Day 1 and 2: Pemba – Mucojo – Mogundula Island:
You will be met upon arrival at the airport by our Mozambique safari rep. You will enjoy a briefing on the Mozambique honeymoon safari. This will be followed by an approximately 3 hour road transfer to Mucojo. Upon arrival you will join your dhow transfer to Mogundula Island.
Mogundula Island is one of the best islands in the archipelago. It is the reason why you will spend 2 nights in Mogundula. It is the perfect base from which to explore. The island is known by the locals as the island with the sacred lake. Mogundula Island offers fabulous bird watching theatre and pristine swimming. The latter can be done off the sandbank beach and excellent snorkelling. The mobile camp is set under the shade of a cluster of trees. You usually have this magical uninhabited island to yourself. Overnight will be at the camp and spend time exploring Mogundula Island and its surrounds. You can take a day trip by dhow to the Pangane Peninsula and/or Macaloe Island.
Day 3: Mogundula Island to Ulumbwa
Your Mozambique honeymoon safari will depart Mogundula Island. This will be on your journey of exploration into the Quirimbas Archipelago. You will be sailing into the clearest of blue water with pristine corals below. The Ulumbwa river mouth beckons and it is here that fascinating rural fishing villages dot the shore. This is your chance to camp in the open Mozambique bush, south of Ulumbwa. You will spend the night at Ibo Lodge on full board basis
Day 4: Day trip to Matemo Island
Today turquoise clear waters and beautiful scenery waits. Your Mozambique honeymoon safari will however set off on an early morning sail. You will be headed up to the Ulumbwa estuary and enjoy views of mangroves that thrive in this area. In the afternoon you will enjoy a tour through the local fishing village. Here you will witness first-hand the age-old traditions of these fisher folk. This will be interpreted by your knowledgeable guide. You will stop on the southern tip of Matemo Island to go exploring. You will later return to camp at Ulumbwa.
Day 5-7: Ulumbwa region – Ibo Island
Today your Mozambique honeymoon safari heads to Ibo Island. This is probably the most compelling attraction in the Quirimbas. There is an intriguing Ibo Island’s 200-year-old ghost town and 16th century forts. They make for a fascinating journey to an era long forgotten. The Ibo Island guided experience is included in this Mozambique honeymoon safari package. It provides a chance to interact with the amazingly friendly local people. You will also have an opportunity to observe their unique island culture and heritage. This is a way of life that has not changed for hundreds of years. You will wander around the mysterious ruins amongst forts and ancient trade buildings. There are many fascinating stories just waiting to be told here. You will spend the nights at the beautiful Ibo Island lodge.
Day 8: Ibo Island to Pemba
Your day on Mozambique honeymoon safari will begin with breakfast. This will be followed by a beautiful light aircraft flight over the islands and turquoise waters. It is a transfer to Pemba International Airport from Ibo Island Lodge. You will be in time for your onward international flight home.
