Detailed 8 Day Magical Kenya Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya
Our Kenya safari rep will meet you in the morning. This will be either at JKIA or your Nairobi hotel. After introductions, you will be briefed on this Amazing Magical Kenya safari.
Drive north to the foot of Africa’s second highest mountain, Mount Kenya. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Naro Moru River Lodge.
The afternoon will be spent at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.
Mount Kenya National Park
Mount Kenya National Park was established in 1949. This was to protect Mount Kenya, the wildlife and surrounding environment. This forms a habitat for wild animals. It also acts as an area for the catchment of water, to supply Kenya's water.
At first it was a forest reserve, before being announced as a national park. Currently, the national park is encircled by the forest reserve.
In April 1978, the area was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The national park and forest reserve became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
The national park has an area of 715 square kilometres (276 sq mi). Most of this is above the 3,000-metre (9,800 ft) contour line. The forest reserve has an area of 705 square kilometres (272 sq mi).
Day 2: Naro Moru - Samburu National Reserve
After your morning breakfast, you will leave north. This will be a drive to the Samburu National Reserve. Your arrival will be in time for lunch at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. After a short nap, embark on an evening game drive at 1600hrs. This game drive within the park will introduce you to the game in the area. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Samburu National Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is one of the lesser-known national parks. It is besides teeming with life.
The park is situated alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River. There is plenty to attract wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains.
The reserve is rich in wildlife with plenty of rare northern specialist species. They include Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx. They are often referred to as Samburu Special Five.
The reserve is also home to elephants and large predators such as the lion, leopard and cheetah. Kamunyak the miracle lioness that adopted the baby oryx was as a resident in the reserve.
Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area. Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
A full day will be spent in the Samburu Game Reserve. The activities to be undertaken will include with morning and afternoon game viewing.
The area around the life giving Uaso Nyiro River is home to the rare and beautiful wildlife species. They include the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Gerenuk, gazelle and the Somali ostrich.
Elephant, buffalo, lion leopard and other plains game are also abundant here. All meals and overnight will be at the Sarova Shaba Lodge.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park
After breakfast you will drive south to Aberdare region. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Aberdare Safari Club.
After lunch you will be transferred to The Ark. This is situated deep in the Aberdare forest at an altitude of over 2000 meters.
Throughout the day and night forest animals visit the waterhole and salt lick. This will let you have many exciting moments. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.
Aberdares National Park
The Aberdares are an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the rift valley. It runs about 100 Km north south between Nairobi and Thompsons Falls.
This scenic region is much cooler than the savannahs. It offers a completely different perspective on the country. The national park lies above the tree line.
The scenery is spectacular. This is where the mountainous terrain covered in thick tropical forests swathed in mist.
Aberdare National Park is located about 150km (93 miles) east of Nairobi. It is accessible from Nyeri and Naro Moru. The Park is 87 km (54 miles) from Naivasha. Most tourists travel by road.
Day 5: Aberdare - Lake Nakuru National Park
Your day on Amazing Magical Kenya safari starts with breakfast. You will then leave to Lake Nakuru National Park.
This is one of the many beautiful Rift Valley Lakes. It is home to thousands of flamingos and other bird and animal life.
You will have a stop at the Thompson Falls before proceeding. Arrival at the Maili Saba Safari Camp will be in time for lunch.
In the afternoon a game drive will preoccupy your time. Return back to the safari camp for dinner and overnight.
About Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s 23 National Parks. It is one of two in the Premium category, along with Amboseli National Park.
It can be found in Central Kenya, about 90 miles (140km) northwest of Nairobi. This is in the former Nakuru district of the Rift Valley Province.
Lake Nakuru National Park started as a bird viewing and sport shooting area. This was of migratory birds in 1950s. But has since been expanded and fenced to protect populations. There are endangered giraffes and rhinoceros.
The ecosystem is comprised of the lake, surrounded by wooded and bushy grasslands.
The park supports a wide ecological diversity including Flamingos. There are other water birds. It is also home to the Black and White Rhinoceros which are the major attractions of the area.
Day 6: L. Nakuru - Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast leave through the floor of The Great Rift Valley. This is the longest rift in the crust of the earth. It is also referred to as the Gregory Rift Valley.
You will be heading to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be at the Mara Sentrim Camp in time for lunch.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive at 1600 hrs. Here you have good chance of spotting lions, elephants, cheetah and if you are lucky, the shy leopard. Return back for dinner and overnight at Mara Sentrim Camp.
About Masai Mara National Reserve
Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Kenya. The reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in open Savannah grassland.
Wildlife tends to be most concentrated on the reserve’s western escarpment.
The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest’s migration alone involves over 1.5 million animals. They arrive in July and departing in November.
There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles. the park also has over 400 birds species recorded on the reserve.
Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant. This is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five. they include buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino.
Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend full day of in this natural paradise of Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be among the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, antelope and gazelle.
You should look forward to encounter prides of lion. They will either be hunting or resting in the shade of acacia trees or lying low in the tall grass.
You can opt for a full day game drive with picnic lunch boxes. You may morning and afternoon game drives at 0630hrs and 1600hrs. This can be another option.
The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti and its rolling plains. It is home to hundreds of plains game together with predators that feed on them.
You will have all your meals and overnight at Mara Sentrim Camp.
Day 8: Masai Mara - Nairobi
This is the last day of the Amazing Magical Kenya safari. The day will start with and early breakfast.
After checking out of your lodge, you will leave for Nairobi. You will arrive in the early afternoon. Drop off will be at the airport or your Nairobi hotel.
