Lake Manyara Ngorongoro Crater Safari Itinerary
Day 1: ARUSHA – NGORONGORO CRATER NATIONAL PARK
Our Tanzania safari rep will meet you at your hotel. You will be briefed on the Lake Manyara Ngorongoro safari. With picnic lunch boxes you will depart for Ngorongoro. Your arrival at Ngorongoro Crater National Park will be in 3 hours.
Your Lake Manyara Ngorongoro safari takes a drive into the crater’s floor. This will be a steep drive down the walls of the caldera. You will be here for half-day crater tour. Search for the big cats, herbivores, vulture and birds. Some of the animals on your menu include lion, elephant, eland, gazelle, hartebeest, topi and many more.

About Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and certainly one of the wonders of the world. It is also an extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest population of large mammals.
Even high up on the chilly rim of the crater you can see thousand-strong herds of antelope as they move in ant-like formation across the crater floor. As you descend, the shapes become animals and you are soon in the depth of one of Africa’s richest game areas.
The crater floor is superb for photographic safaris. Animals are prolific, relaxed and beautifully framed against the striking backdrop of the 600-metre high crater wall. The open grasslands see thousands of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle. T
he striking Lerai forest, composed almost entirely of yellow fever trees, is the best place to find waterbuck, bushbuck and eland, whilst the adjoining Gorigor Swamp is the main haunt of Ngorongoro’s elephant population, with some striking big tuskers. Black rhino, lion and leopard complete the big five.
Day 2: NGORONGORO CRATER NATIONAL PARK
Start your Lake Manyara Ngorongoro safari day with breakfast at the comfort of your Tanzania safari lodge in Ngorongoro. This will be followed by a drive down the steep walls of the caldera with picnic lunch boxes. This is another day on Half-day crater tour down the floor of the Ngorongoro crater.
You will be searching for game in the Ngorongoro Crater’s floor. The Park is a paradise of woodlands and lakes. This provides for abundant wildlife. A multitude of birds including flamingos are sighted regularly. Dinner and overnight will be at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.
Day 3: NGORONGORO – LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy an early breakfast before departure. Your Lake Manyara Ngorongoro safari heads to Lake Manyara National Park. You will arrive in time for lunch at your Lake Manyara Lodge.
A short rest will prepare you for the afternoon activities. At 1600 hrs, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park is spectacularly situated. This is between the Great Rift Valley Escarpment and Lake Manyara. The most famous spectacle is the tree-climbing lions.
Other animals found here include leopard, olive baboons, Thompson gazelle, impala, etc. The saline Lake Manyara that is the center piece of the lake is home to many bird species including the greater and lesser flamingoes and pelicans.
They are occasionally seen along branches of Acacia trees. Dinner and overnight will be at the Lake Manyara Hotel.
About Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara is best used as a soft introduction to a safari. While the scenic beauty of this park certainly makes it worth a visit, the game viewing here pales into insignificance when compared with that on offer in Tarangire, the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
Famous for its tree-climbing lions, flamingos, breathtaking scenery and the soda-ash lake in the centre, Manyara merits a day trip but not much longer. Lake Manyara is a lovely scenic park on the road from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater, famous for its tree climbing lions, good elephants and baboons.
The lake itself takes up much of the park, leaving a strip of land running along its shores where game concentrates.
Often visited for an afternoon game drive on the way to Ngorongoro, it would be a shame to miss out Manyara if you’re driving straight past it – but it’s really not up there with the heavyweight big boys in terms of game viewing.
Day 4: LAKE MANYARA – ARUSHA
Start your Lake Manyara Ngorongoro safari with breakfast. This will be followed by check out from your lodge. You will drive back to Arusha arriving in the early afternoon. Drop off will be at your hotel in Arusha.
