4 Day Gorilla Trekking Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: KAMPALA – BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST
You will be picked up by our Uganda safari guide after breakfast. A full brief on the 4-day gorilla trekking Uganda safari will follow. You will leave Kampala driving southwest via Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara road.
A stopover t the equator for some photos will not be a bad idea. Continue to Mbarara where you will have your lunch. From there you will head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
This will be in the evening with no time for any activity. Retire for dinner and overnight at Engangi Lodge.
About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda. The park comes with thick vegetation like its name suggests.
Every day the ranger guides have to cut vegetation for trackers to access way. This is as you move to where gorillas nested the previous night.
It is the true African jungle with droplets of the sun coming through the think forest cover. This will give you a feeling of being in paradise with zero pollution. You will not be scared of several emissions common to our daily environment.
The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994. This is because of its rich diversity in hosting different flora and fauna. It is also home to half of the worlds remaining mountain gorillas.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers an area of 321 km2. This is all forested with some areas being covered by bamboo and shrubs. The forest lies on steep slippery valleys with ridges and hilltops.
The weather in Bwindi is chilly because of the immerse canopy. You are advised to carry some warm clothing for evenings. Long-sleeved shirts/trousers are necessary for Uganda gorilla trekking.
The ultimate experience is to anyone who chooses to trek the mountain gorillas. Or you may even add a search for birds, butterflies or shrubs into your list. The most important thing is to be in good physical condition to go up and down the terrain. It lies at an altitude between 1160m-2607m above sea level.
Day 2: GORILLA TREKKING IN BWINDI FOREST
Start your day with an early breakfast. You will then head to the park office headquarters with packed lunch boxes. Here you will receive a briefing on mountain gorilla trekking. This is before you venture into the bush.
You will be accompanied by an armed ranger, a guide and some porters. You get to spend an hour with the gorillas after having trekked for about 3-6 hours.
Later return to the lodge for afternoon at leisure. Enjoy your dinner and overnight at Engangi Lodge.
Day 3: BWINDI – LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
You will leave Bwindi Forest after breakfast. This is a scenic drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo National Park is a haven for impalas.
There are other small antelopes and herbivorous concentrated in Lake Mburo. Enjoy a game drive on arrival in the park checking out Uganda’s wildlife. You will get to see zebra, warthog, buffalo, klipspringer, eland, oribi and waterbuck.
Better yet you can do the game drive on quad bikes at cost. You will have all your meals at Rwonyo Tented Camp.
About Lake Mburo National park
Lake Mburo National Park is one of Uganda’s smaller national parks. This savannah park encompases an area of only 250km².
Regardless of its size, the park features a variety of habitats. This ranges from lakes and open savannah grasslands to remarkable wetland environments. The park derives its name from the largest of the five lakes in the park.
Lake Mburo National Park is situated only 4 hours’ drive from Uganda’s capital, Kampala. It is most visited by clients driving to Bwindi to see the mountain gorilla. This is because it is halfway between the two locations. lake Mburo is the most accessible of Uganda National parks. But it remains one of the country’s least visited parks.
The Big 5 aren’t found in Lake Mburo National Park. But the park still offers an excellent wildlife safari experience. The grasslands, bush thickets and rolling hillsides are home to a variety of animals.
They include the only population of impala antelope in Uganda. Bird watching around the lakes and wetlands is nothing short of spectacular. the park has over 300 species of bird to be found here.
Along the shores of Lake Mburo, you’re likely to spot hippo. There are crocodile, buffalo, and various antelope.
Day 4: LAKE MBURO – KAMPALA
After breakfast and proceed for a morning boat trip on Lake Mburo. You will admire several other lakes like Kazuma and Lake Bwa besides.
Gaze at the huge hippos, crocodiles and buffaloes as they drink water. There are attractive birds to look for like Abyssinian ground hornbill, the crested crane.
Finish your 4 days gorilla trekking Uganda safari with a drive to Kampala. You will be dropped off at your Kampala hotel or home.
