3 Day Etosha Lodge Safari Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek – Okaukuejo, Etosha National Park
You will be met at your hotel in Windhoek by our Namibia safari rep. You will have a briefing on this 3 days Etosha lodge safari. Your adventure then departs from Windhoek at 0830hrs. We will leave the city via the B1 to the north. This will be a long drive to Etosha National Park.
There will stop in Otjiwarongo to fill up with petrol and get provisions. Another stop will be on the way to have our picnic lunch. Arrival in Etosha will be in the afternoon. We will get into western Etosha through the Andersson Gate. This takes us through to Okaukuejo. We will check into our room and enjoy an afternoon of relaxation. Later we shall embark on exploring the surroundings.
You can also opt to cool yourself by taking a swim. This is before we embark on a late afternoon game drive on this Etosha lodge safari. You will return back to your Etosha safari lodge in time for dinner.
A visit to the floodlit waterhole is strongly recommended. There are good chances of seeing rhinos and lions come to drink.
About Etosha National Park
One of the largest savannah conservation areas in Africa, Etosha National Park is world reknown for its spectacular wildlife: elephant, black and white rhinoceros, lions, leopards, cheetahs, large herds of springbok, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and a multitude of other fascinating species, big and small, interacting in their natural environment.
The Etosha National Park in the game-rich northwestern corner of Namibia is 380 km at it’s longest and 90 km at its widest. It is a paradise, especially for the photographer, as it contains a wide variety of game in open country. There are rest camps within the park, Okaukuejo, Halali, Namutoni and the luxurios Onkoshi Camp.
However, there are also a wide selection of private and exclusive lodges located outside of the National Park. Declared a National Park in 1907, the park covers an area of 22 270 km² and is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and one species of fish.
The Etosha Pan dominates the park. The salt pan desert is roughly 130 km long and as wide as 50 km in places. The salt pan is usually dry, but fills with water briefly in the summer, when it attracts pelicans and flamingos in particular. Perennial springs attract a variety of animals and birds throughout the year, including the endangered Black Rhinoceros and the endemic Black-faced Impala.
Day 2: Okaukuejo – Namutoni, Etosha National Park
Most of the day on 3 days Etosha lodge safari will be spent on game drive. There will be a stop on a number of waterholes. We will also make a stop at the Etosha Pan, the “place of dry water”. The Pan is an extensive flat depression of about 5,000 km2. This white expanse is a place of shimmering mirages.
You will be able to see large herds of game in this setting on this Etosha lodge safari. This is what makes Etosha unique experience in Namibia and Africa. The Etosha lodge safari may stop at Halali middle camp to have lunch. The game drive will continue to Namutoni. Here we will have time to relax at the swimming pool. Alternatively we may stop at the waterhole before a late afternoon game drive.
The evening game viewing is usually excellent. You will be rewarded with close views of springboks, zebras and impalas. There are also giraffes, gemsboks and plenty of birds. With luck we may have some close encounters with elephants and lions. An evening sundowner will end our day. This is from the tower of the old Namibian German fort before dinner.
Day 3: Namutoni – Windhoek
Start your day early on the 3 days Namibia safari tour. This will be with a morning safari game drive. Here you get the opportunity to get some more of Etosha’s wildlife. It is the best time as the soft morning light allows for animals to graze.
We will depart Etosha via the Von Lindequist Gate and head back to the city. There will be a short detour to Lake Otjikoto. It is distinguished by its emerald-green waters and discovered in 1851. We will make a stop before reaching Windhoek. This will be at a small town of Okahandja.
We will visit Namibia’s largest wood–carving market. We are likely to arrive back in the city at around 1630hrs. You will be dropped off at your Windhoek accommodation.
