7 Day Cape Winelands Tour Safari Destinations
Franschhoek Valley
The Franschhoek Valley is surely the most spectacular and utterly beguiling wine region in the world today for those on 7 Day Cape Winelands Tour Safari. Its history dates back to the 17th century when the area now under vine was farmed by Huguenots settlers fleeing religious persecution.
Today, Franschhoek carries that legacy with its French place and family names. Although strictly speaking it is classed as a separate wine-growing sub-zone, parts of the Franschhoek Valley do fall under the Paarl Ward or regional boundary.
The valley is enclosed on three sides by mountains, offering magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards and award-winning restaurants for those on 7 Day Cape Winelands Tour Safari.
Although Franschhoek lacks the more celebrated Stellenbosch zone’s glamour further west, some fascinating wines are nonetheless made in this perhaps less fashionable part of South Africa.
Indeed, some of the country’s best wine producers are located here, including Boekenhoutskloof, Boshcendal, Chamonix, and Stony Brook.
Approximately 1,400 hectares are currently under vine, situated in a clearly defined valley with the Wemmershoek Mountains to the north separate and Groot Drakenstein and Franschhoek Mountains to the south. The scenery is also punctuated by the Berg River, which runs north-west towards the region of Paarl.
Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch is known for its restored Cape Dutch architecture dating from the 18th and 19th centuries and for its streets lined with majestic oaks. Its gardens and parks include the Braak, a square set aside in 1703 as a military parade ground.
Cape of Good Hope
Cape of Good Hope, rocky promontory at the southern end of Cape Peninsula, Western Cape province, South Africa.
The first European to sight the cape was Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias in 1488 on his return voyage to Portugal after ascertaining the southern limits of the African continent.
One historical account says that Dias named the promontory Cape of Storms and that John II of Portugal renamed it Cape of Good Hope (because its discovery was a good omen that India could be reached by sea from Europe); other sources attribute its present name to Dias himself.
Known for the stormy weather and rough seas encountered there, the cape is situated at the convergence of the warm Mozambique-Agulhas current from the Indian Ocean and the cool Benguela current from Antarctic waters.
Grass and low shrub vegetation is characteristic of the promontory, which is part of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve (established 1939) that encompasses the southern tip of the peninsula. There is a lighthouse on Cape Point about 1.2 miles (2 km) east of the Cape of Good Hope.
Thornybush Game Reserve
Thornybush Private Game Reserve, also known as Thornybush Private Nature Reserve is located adjacent to Kruger Park in South Africa and forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
7 Day Cape Winelands Tour Safari will take you to the home to the Big Five and a variety of other African wildlife species, it has a near perfect year round climate, making Thornybush a perfect destination for a family safari.
Thornybush Game Reserve is a private game reserve, near Hoedspruit, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It borders the Kapama Game Reserve and is located close to the Timbavati Game Reserve and the Kruger Park. The Reserve’s surface area is approximately 14,000 ha of mainly open savannah.
As with many private reserves in South Africa, Thornybush is managed as an eco-tourism destination, thus the Reserve is funded by means of a number of up-market private commercial game lodges located within the Reserve. They are involved in different kind of projects such as supporting local community through contributions to surrounding schools and sustainable farming.
