4 Day Budget Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Parc Nationale Des Volcans
You will be met on arrival at the Kigali International Airport. This will be by our Rwanda safari representative. He will brief you on the 4 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari.
You will depart Kigali for Volcanoes National Park. Your arrival will be in time for lunch. The afternoon is left for you to enjoy at leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at La Palme Hotel.
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is 160 square kilometers in size; it is the oldest national park in Africa, established in 1929 as the Albert National Park. In 1967 famous for mountain gorillas, the American zoologist, Dian Fossey, who had been doing research on Mountain Gorillas in the forests of the Congo, fled from insecurity and established her research base at a place between Visoke and Karisimbi volcanoes, now known as the Karisoke Research Center.
The Volcanoes National Park is home to not only the Mountain Gorillas, but also Golden Monkeys, Spotted Hyena, Buffaloes, Elephants, Black-fronted Duiker and Bushbuck. The park has almost 200 bird species including 29 endemics to Rwenzori Mountains and the Virungas.
Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking
Start your 4 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari with an early breakfast. This will be followed by a departure to the headquarters. Here you will be briefed on the task ahead. You will be grouped into 8. This is according to the gorilla family you are trekking.
Each group will have an armed ranger and a guide. With porters, you will embark on trekking gorillas in Rwanda. This will take between 2 to 8 hours. The determinant factor is the weather, terrain and location of the gorilla family. When you sight your gorilla family, you shall have an hour with them.
Later after having lunch, you will get back to the HQ. You will be transferred back to your Volcanoes safari accommodation. Evening will be at leisure or enjoy a walk to the nearest villages. You will have your dinner and overnight at La Palme Hotel.
Day 3: Golden Monkeys Tracking
Another early start on 4 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari. This will be with an early breakfast. Transfer to the park headquarters for briefing. In smaller groups of 5s you will set off to the forest. This is to track the rare Golden monkeys.
You will encounter other primate species as vervet monkeys and baboons. There are a variety of bird species and butterflies. Your guide will help you with the identification of whatever animal you will meet. The guide will be ready to answer your questions about fauna and flora.
Your lunch on this day will be picnic boxes you carried from your hotel. Return to your lodge in the afternoon. The evening will be at leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at La Palme Hotel.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Kigali
Your 4 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari starts with an early breakfast. This will be followed by checking out. You are heading back to the capital Kigali.
On arrival, you will enjoy a Kigali city tour. This takes you to Gisozi, The Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. You will also be able to visit colorful markets and craft centers.
You will get to learn how people have managed to move on after the genocide. First hand narrations will help you paint a picture of what really happened. Today’s lunch is on own arrangement. You will later be dropped at your hotel in Kigali. For those flying out, a transfer to the airport will do.
