Budget Camping Safari in Uganda Itinerary
Day 1: KAMPALA – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Our Uganda safari guide will be at hand to pick you up after breakfast. You will receive a briefing on the 5 days Budget camping safari in Uganda before departure.
Drive through Kampala City driving west to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will have a stop at the equator for a photo shoot. This will be followed by a stop in Mbarara where you will enjoy your lunch.
Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park and check into your Queen Elizabeth budget lodge.
After a short rest, embark on an evening game drive. You will be looking for lions, elephants, baboons among other wildlife. You will return back to Albertine Rift Camp in time for dinner and overnight.
About Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s premier game viewing destination. It is one of the most diverse parks in the world. It has more than 610 bird species recorded (more than the entire British Isles!).
Located in south-west Uganda, are the famous tree-climbing lions. They are its undisputed wildlife stars. But, visitors on any Queen Elizabeth safari can also expect to see elephants and hippo. There are also crocodiles, buffalo and plenty of antelope species.
But the park’s real reward lies in its ability to offer a diverse range of safari activities. A boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel is almost obligatory. This is because of the rewarding game viewing and bird watching en route.
Kyambura Gorge offers a green sliver of forest to explore. It is home to chimpanzees and other primates. On-foot chimp tracking through the forest is available twice a day. This makes a wonderful contrast with the savannah game viewing in the rest of the park.
Day 2: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Wake up to an early breakfast before embarking on a game drive. This will be 3 hours of intense game drive. On this day you will be out to see most of the savannah wildlife that you could not see earlier.
You will return back to your lodge for a short rest and lunch. You will then be transferred to the jetty for the afternoon boat cruise. This is a boat ride on the Kazinga channel where you will enjoy a game drive on the boat.
On return, enjoy a short drive to Albertine Rift Camp in time for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: QENP – KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
You will leave after breakfast at 0800hrs to Kibale Forest National Park. This drive takes you through the countryside. You will enjoy the view of the Ruwenzori Mountain from a distance.
Arrive in Kibale Forest in time for lunch. After a short rest, enjoy some nature at the Bigodi Swamp. The area is known to be rich in bird life. You will return to Chimps Nest in time for dinner and overnight.
About Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park is an extensive national park. This park protects a large block of rainforest that offers excellent flora and fauna. It has lush tropical rain forest and fascinating diversity.
Kibale forest is one of the most beautiful and stunning forests in Uganda. It harbours the greatest variety and concentration of primates found anywhere in East Africa.
It is a home to the largest number in Uganda to the endangered Chimpanzee as well as the Red Colobus.
In Kibale, birdwatchers look out for the Nahan’s Francolin. This is an endangered species found in three other forest reserves. The Forest ground thrush recorded in only two other IBAs.
Other interesting species include Yellow-spotted Nictor and Yellow- ramped Tinker bird. There is Speckled Tinker bird, Little Greenbul, Superb Sunbird and the African Pitta.
This Uganda national park is also home to White-thighed hornbill. We also have Grey-winged Robin, Blue shouldered Robin Chat and Yellow-spotted Barbet.
Here you can also find Black-billed Turacco, White-naped Pigeon and Green-breasted Pitta. You should not miss Purple-headed Starling and Red-chested Flufftail. We also got Joyful Greenbul, Cabanis Greenbul, Grey-throated Tit Flycatcher, Scarlet-tufted and Green-throated.
We cannnot forget Purple-Breasted sunbirds, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher and Masked Apalis. Others are Tiny Sunbird, White-collared Olive-back, the Black bee-eater and many many others.
Day 4: KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Wake up to an early breakfast at your lodge. With picnic lunch boxes in your bags head to the park headquarters.
At 0730 hrs you will be in time for chimpanzee tracking briefing. In groups, you will enjoy the morning chimp track. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger and a guide.
While tracking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, you will also be looking for other primates. They include red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others.
If you finish early and with energy, you can have a tour of the crater lakes. If you are tired after the walk, then it’s time to rest. You will have your dinner and sleep at the Chimps Nest.
Day 5: KIBALE FOREST – KAMPALA
Enjoy an early breakfast before you check pout of your Kibale Forest Accommodation. You will drive out of the forest and head to Kampala. You will arrive in the early afternoon. On arrival you will be dropped off at your hotel in Kampala.
