Route 62 is named for the R62 provincial route, which it follows from Montagu to Humansdorp, but the tourist route extends further along other highways to Cape Town and Gqeberha.
Also known as the Wine Route, Route 62 leads through the wine-growing areas of Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson and the Klein Karoo and is thus one of the longest wine routes in the world.
Activities on the 6-day garden route tour along Route 62 on the 6 day garden route tour include wine tours, safari drives, tribal art, cultural tours, museums, hiking, mountain climbing, 4×4 routes, canoeing, horse riding, ostrich riding, fishing, caving, and even skydiving.
Route 62 spans a distance of 850 km from Cape Town to Gqeberha and is modeled after the iconic US Route 66, made famous by the late, great Nat King Cole in the song of the mid-20th century.
Travelers on 6-day garden route tour headed for the Garden Route will find that Route 62 offers a better alternative to the dull N2 motorway between Cape Town and George, being more scenic and slightly shorter.
Cango Caves
Cango Caves offer guests on 6 day garden route tour a fascinating pilgrimage through time. Its caverns began forming 20 million years ago when acidic ground water chemically eroded the 100 million year-old limestone rock – although today’s dramatic stalactites and stalagmites began growing only when the water which once filled the Caves drained away: a mere three million years ago.
Man has visited Cango since ancient times: Southern Africa’s earliest people found shelter here for more than 80 000 years before the Caves were ‘discovered’ – in 1780 – by Dutch colonists, the Caves have since become one of South Africa’s most frequently visited tourism attractions.
The Cango Caves is a cultural and natural landmark in South Africa. The 20 million year-old Cango Caves system consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer. It is situated in the Swartberg Mountains, 30 kilometres north of Oudtshoorn, in South Africa’s Western Cape Province.
The Cango Caves became a popular attraction during the 1800s. Many visitors broke off stalagmites and stalactites and wrote their names on the walls. In response, the then governor of the Cape, Lord Charles Somerset, published the first Caves Regulation in 1820.
It was designed to protect an environmental resource and banned the collection of souvenirs. Entrance to the caves cost the equivalent of six dollars, the modern equivalent of about R500.
Many of the significant discoveries of the caves were made by the first full-time guide, Johnnie van Wassenaar, who opened many of the side chambers and introduced thousands of people to Cango 1, which remains the only part of the caves open to the public.
Bloukrans Bridge
Established in 1990, this bungy jumping hotspot is a staggering 216 metres (or almost 710 feet) high. It is for this reason that it is proud to have several world records associated with it; one of which is Scott Huntley’s 107 jumps in 24 hours.
Although safe, there is absolutely no doubt that Bloukrans bungy jumps are going to get your heart pounding when on 6 day garden route tour here. Your stomach will churn and hands quivering; no matter how much of a daredevil you are.
The pendulum bungy technology ensures that each jump is as smooth as possible. The harness is a full-body one with an ankle connection for the ultimate in safety.
For those on 6 day garden route tour not wanting to jump, or who want to experience even more of the thrills, there is a walkway under the bridge, which allows you to feel the rush of the dizzying heights without the heart-stopping horror of the fall.
The walkway takes 6-day garden route tour visitors to the arch of the bridge, from where those wanting to jump take their leap. So, this is a perfect spot from which to watch jumpers, or to support friends and family that are doing the bungy.
Needless to say, it also allows for absolutely exquisite, uninterrupted views of the valleys and mountains when on affordable Garden Route South Africa tour. This promises the ideal photo opportunities.
Walking tours are conducted along this walkway to allow groups to see these gorgeous views with the help and insight of an experienced guide.

The park is one of the best places to view some of the provinces indigenous plants and flowers, while it is also the perfect place to escape from the world and immerse yourself in the untouched nature of the forest, coastline and rivers which are simply brimming with life.
The Tsitsikamma includes around 80km of rock filled coastline which provides the most exquisite views of the ocean and the unique landscapes that have made the area so beloved by South Africans and tourists alike.
