3 Day Ngorongoro Safari Itinerary
Day 1: ARUSHA – NGORONGORO CRATER NATIONAL PARK
Our Tanzania safari representative will be at your Arusha hotel at 0600hrs. He will brief you on the 3 day Ngorongoro safari. With picnic lunch boxes, depart Arusha for Ngorongoro. This will be a 3 hours scenic drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Upon arrival, descend to the floor on arrival at the Ngorongoro Crater National Park. This is a drive down the steep walls of the caldera for a half-day tour. Be sure to look for the big five, cheetah, antelopes and gazelles.
With lunch done drive up the escarpment as you get out of the crater. You will be headed to your Ngorongoro safari lodge. Your evening will be spent on rest and at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at Ngorongoro Wilderness Lodge.
About Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) joins up with Serengeti National Park and the southern Serengeti Plains in the northwest. The south and west of the area are volcanic highlands, including the famous Ngorongoro Crater and the Empakaai Crater.
The southern and eastern boundaries follow the rim of the eastern wall of the Rift Valley, which also prevents animal migration in these directions.
The beautiful, incredibly game-rich Ngorongoro Crater is the main feature of the region and is an iconic natural wonder of the world.
The enclosed caldera is an ecosystem in itself within the greater Serengeti: the mineral-rich floor of the spectacular bowl is largely flat and covered in nutritious grasses, providing a paradise for herbivores and predators alike. The Big Five can all be found in the area, as well as an extraordinary concentration of predators.
Beyond the Ngorongoro Crater are the pristine and wild Crater Highlands. This striking range of largely extinct volcanoes is home to the Empakaai Crater, a smaller but equally impressive crater, famous for the thousands of pink flamingo that line the shores of the soda lake on the crater floor.
Also in the area is the Olmoti volcano, home to abundant wildlife and a variety of exquisite flora and fauna. The NCA also encompasses the archaeological and palaeontological site located at Oldupai Gorge and the early human footprints that were discovered at Alaitole in the Ngarusi area.
Day 2: NGORONGORO CRATER NATIONAL PARK
Begin your 3 day Ngorongoro safari with breakfast. With picnic lunch boxes descend down the caldera’s steep walls. You will have another half-day on 3 day Ngorongoro safari. It will be time to do the searching for wildlife.
The Park is a paradise of woodlands and lakes which provides for abundant wildlife and vegetation. You will be looking for Gazelle, buffalo, elephants and wildebeest, elephants, elands and many gazelle species. You may also see all the big cats that include the lion, leopard and cheetah among other carnivores like hyena, silverback jackal, wild dogs and many others.
Of interest would be the black manned lion, leopards and hyena. A multitude of birds including flamingos are sighted regularly. The rich bird life is due to the soda content in Lake Magadi which is located on the crater floor.
Ngorongoro crater is wildly beautiful hence the name ‘Garden of Eden’. Return for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wilderness Lodge.
Day 3: NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA
Start your day on Africa safari in Tanzania to Ngorongoro Crater with breakfast. Your 3 day Ngorongoro safari will then take a drive back to Arusha. End the safari with a drop off at your hotel in Arusha.
