8 Day Magical Kenya Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya
A warm welcome by our meet and greet team will be at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. This is upon arrival in the morning. Welcome to Africa, Karibu Kenya and time for briefing on the 8 day Magical Kenya safari. Let us hit the road as you begin to experience amazing time of your life in Africa on the Magical Kenya safari. The safari starts with a drive heading north to the foot of Africa’s second highest mountain, Mount Kenya. You will go through the rich central coffee farm lands and tea fields. Be on the lookout to see the second highest peak as you move towards Naro Moru. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Naro Moru River Lodge. The afternoon will be spent at leisure with the option of a nature walk to the edge of the forest. You may also have a cultural tour to learn the culture of the local people and dance to their tunes. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge in Mount Kenya.
Mt Kenya National Park
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa. Due to its unique ecosystems which change the higher you go up the mountain, Mount Kenya has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. Many climbers, hikers, trekkers and adventure enthusiasts challenge themselves by ascending the mountain each year. Most people come to the Mount Kenya National Park to climb the Mountain. There are seven routes up the mountain, which has three peaks. Most tourists climb to Point Lenana which at 4985m is the third highest peak. Only climbers with advanced technical climbing ability are allowed to attempt the other two peaks.
Day 2: Naro Moru - Samburu National Reserve
The day on magical Kenya safari begins with breakfast. Continue with your forays to the north. Today you will be crossing the Equator into the Northern Hemisphere. This will be a drive to the Samburu National Reserve. Your arrival will be in time for lunch at the Sarova Shaba Lodge. After a short nap, embark on an evening game drive at 1600hrs. This game drive within the park will introduce you to the game in the area. Some of the wildlife to be seen here include lions, cheetah, leopard, gerenuk, zebras and many more. You will later return to your lodge in Samburu in time for dinner and overnight.
About Samburu National Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is one of the lesser-known national parks, but is nevertheless teeming with life. Situated alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, there is plenty to attract wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains. The reserve is rich in wildlife with an abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five). The reserve is also home to elephants and large predators such as the lion, leopard and cheetah. Kamunyak the miracle lioness that adopted the baby oryx was as a resident in the reserve. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area. Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
A full day will be spent in the Samburu Game Reserve. The activities to be undertaken will include with morning and afternoon game viewing. The area around the life giving Uaso Nyiro River is home to the rare and beautiful wildlife species. They include the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Gerenuk, gazelle and the Somali ostrich. Elephant, buffalo, lion leopard and other plains game are also abundant here. You also have the option of visiting the nearby Samburu Manyattas to learn about the people’s culture and way of life. All your meals and overnight will be at the Sarova Shaba Lodge.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park
An early morning game drive will begin your day on the Magical Kenya safari. This will be preceded by departure driving south to Aberdares region. You will proceed to arrive in time for lunch at the Aberdare Safari Club. After lunch you will be transferred to The Ark. This is situated deep in the Aberdare forest at an altitude of over 2000 meters. Throughout the day and night forest animals visit the waterhole and saltlick. This will let you have many exciting moments. Many animals visit the salt lick at night and on your menu expect to see the elephant, buffaloes, warthog, many antelope and gazelle species. With the grazers come the carnivore that include lions, leopard among others. Dinner with fun filled overnight of game watching from the comfort of your lodge in Aberdare National Park.
About Aberdare National Park
It is 60 kilometers of mountain range extend across the elevated terrain of Kenya’s central highlands. It is wrapped in the small yet diverse protective borders of the Aberdare National Park’s expansive moorland. The park is located approximately 150 kilometers north of Nairobi and nearby to The Great Rift Valley, making it an easy addition to an itinerary in the area or while visiting the iconic Maasai Mara and Amboseli National Park.
Visitors to Aberdare National Park will be treated to lion, leopard, buffalo, and elephant sightings, to name a few, while those with a very keen eye may spot the elusive bongo or the mysterious golden cat hiding out between bamboo shoots and dense foliage. The local Kikuyu tribe have long revered the Aberdare Mountain Range, believing it to be the sacred home of their god.
The park has been operating since 1950, and aside from excellent game-viewing and impressive landscapes, Aberdare is also known to have been frequented by Lord Baden-Powell, who is buried in the nearby town of Nyeri and whose home in the park is now a museum. The Treetops Hotel located in the park is known for being the place where Queen Elizabeth II was staying when she learnt of her father’s death and her own ascension to the throne.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park
Your day on this amazing Magical Kenya safari starts with breakfast. You will then depart to the base hotel to pick up the rest of your luggage. You can now proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park. This is one of the many beautiful Rift Valley Lakes. It is home to thousands of flamingos and other bird and animal life. You will have a stop at the amazingly beautiful Thompson Falls before proceeding. Arrival at the Maili Saba Safari Camp will be in time for lunch. A short rest in your tent or by the pool side overlooking the Menengai crater floor will prepare you for the evening game drive. In the afternoon a game drive will preoccupy your time. Lake Nakuru is home to millions of greater and lesser flamingoes, other bird include pelicans and other water birds. 4 of the big five also find habitat in this small park, the big cats, baboons and monkeys form part of the many animals here. Return back to the safari camp in Nakuru in time for dinner and overnight.
About Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National park is home to one of the Great Rift Valley's most famous soda lakes. Lake Nakuru offers visitors the chance to witness one of the world's most spectacular wildlife sights: brilliant pink flamingos as far as the eye can see.
When conditions are right, between one and two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow lake, which together with tens of thousands of other water birds within a species list of around 400 birds, make Lake Nakuru a genuine ornithologist's paradise.
Game viewing is also good. Declared a national park in 1961, Lake Nakuru covers an area of some 180 km² and its diverse habitats are home to warthog, baboon, waterbuck and large numbers of impala. Slightly shyer residents include buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe, eland, the occasional leopard and both black and white rhino. A herd of hippo have their territory in the northern part of the lake.
Day 6: L. Nakuru - Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast depart through the floor of The Great Rift Valley. This is the longest rift in the crust of the earth. It is also referred to as the Gregory Rift Valley. You will b heading to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be at the Mara Sentrim Camp in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at 1600hrs. Here you have good chance of spotting lions, elephants, cheetah, buffaloes, hartebeest, warthogs, wildebeest and if you are lucky, the shy leopard. There are many more wildlife and birds to be seen in the Masai Mara National Reserve that you know. Return back for dinner and overnight to your Masai Mara safari camp.
About Masai Mara National Reserve
Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people.
Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometers of unspoilt wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya, but anywhere in Africa. Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend full day of in this natural paradise of Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be among the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, antelope and gazelle. You should look forward to encounter prides of lion. They will either be hunting or resting in the shade of acacia trees or lying low in the tall grass. You can opt for a full day game drive with picnic lunch boxes. Alternatively morning and afternoon game drives at 0630hrs and 1600hrs respectively can be another option. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti and its rolling plains are home to hundreds of plains game together with predators that feed on them. You will have all your meals and overnight at Mara Sentrim Camp.
Day 8: Masai Mara - Nairobi
This is the last day of the Amazing Magical Kenya safari. The day will start with and early breakfast. After checking out of your lodge, you will depart for Nairobi. You will arrive in the early afternoon. Drop off will be at the airport or your Nairobi hotel.
