8 Days Budget Camping Safari Kenya
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya
Our Kenya safari rep will meet you in the morning. This will be either at JKIA or your Nairobi hotel. After introductions, you will be briefed on this budget camping safari Kenya tour. Drive north to the foot of Africa’s second highest mountain, Mount Kenya. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Sirimon Cottage. The afternoon will be spent at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at your cottage.
About Mount Kenya National Park
The massive bulk of Mount Kenya straddles the Equator yet is permanently crowned with snow; UNESCO inscribed Mount Kenya as a World Heritage Site. The Mount Kenya National Park, surrounded by 2000 km² of Forest Reserve. It is dominated by the twin summits of Batian (5,199 m) and Nelion (5,188 m) whose jagged snow-capped peaks are all that remain of a gigantic volcanic lava plug. This was once thrust another 300 meters into the sky. The Mount Kenya Forest Reserve is the largest forest reserve and water supply in Kenya and produces 70% of Kenya’s hydroelectric power.
The forest features magnificent stands of buttressed and lichen-draped juniper, Podocarpus and African olive trees. They make a dense canopy that provides the ideal habitat for vast herds of buffalo and elephant, tree hyrax and white tailed mongoose. It is also home to suni, black fronted duiker, mole rat, bushbucks, water buck, Elands as well as a bright kaleidoscope of birds. Animals rarely seen include leopard, bongo, giant forest hog and rhino. Activities in this park include guided forest walks, trout fishing, mountain climbs and treks, tree-planting program.
Day 2: Naro Moru – Samburu National Reserve
After your morning breakfast, you will depart north. This will be a drive to the Samburu National Reserve. Your arrival will be in time for lunch at the Ololokwe Guest Resort. After a short nap, embark on an evening game drive at 1600hrs. This game drive within the park will introduce you to the game in the area. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
About Samburu Game Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River in the dry northern reaches of Kenya. It is a hot and arid area characterized by a parched landscape of hills and plains. The presence, however, of the river - and its shady trees - attracts plenty of wildlife. Giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck and zebra (including the endangered Grevy's zebra) from the surrounding savannah plains trek to the water. Lion, leopard and cheetah are also quite easy to spot, thanks in part to the lack of grass cover. Samburu is also home to large herds of elephants, and the reserve is well known for providing the opportunity to see wildlife that only lives in the dry north of Kenya.
Be on the lookout for gerenuks - these odd, yet distinguished looking, gazelle have long necks, and stand on their hind legs to feed. For the birders, around 365 species have been recorded and the river area is particularly rewarding. Across the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. A bridge connects the two, and they are often grouped together by tour companies. Nearby is the swampy wilderness of the Shaba National Reserve.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
A full day will be spent in the Samburu Game Reserve. The activities to be undertaken will include with morning and afternoon game viewing. The area around the life giving Uaso Nyiro River is home to the rare and beautiful wildlife species. They include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Gerenuk, gazelle and the Somali ostrich. Elephant, buffalo, lion leopard and other plains game are also abundant here. All meals and overnight will be at the Ololokwe Guest Resort.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park
After breakfast you will drive south to Aberdares region. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Sapper Hut. This is situated deep in the Aberdares forest at an altitude of over 2000 meters. Throughout the day and night forest animals visit around. This will let you have many exciting moments. Dinner and overnight will be at your hut.
About Aberdare National Park
The Aberdares are an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the rift valley, running about 100 Km north south between Nairobi and Thompsons Falls. This beautifully scenic region is much cooler than the savannahs and offers a completely different perspective on the country. The Aberdare national park lies mainly above the tree line. The scenery is spectacular with its mountainous terrain covered in thick tropical forests swathed in mist.
Aberdares National Park is renowned for its game viewing of wild animals such as Lion, Baboons, Black and white monkeys, Leopards among others. It is also an ideal place for a fishing excursion. Aberdares National Park is known to have the world's greatest fisheries. Its remote and pure waterways make it the most preferred choice for fishing activities.
Bird watching will arouse your interest and make your vacation memorable as possible. Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park
Your day on budget camping safari Kenya starts with breakfast. You will then depart to Lake Nakuru National Park. This is one of the many beautiful Rift Valley Lakes. It is home to thousands of flamingos and other bird and animal life. You will have a stop at the Thompson Falls before proceeding. Arrival at the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya Hostels will be in time for lunch. In the afternoon a game drive will preoccupy your time. Return back to the safari camp for dinner and overnight.
About Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru national Park is one of the most scenic parks at the heart of the rift valley with a very rich flamingo population, indeed the largest worldwide. The park covers an area of 188 KM2 and at an altitude of 1756 M. above sea level. Animals include the lion, leopard, black and white rhinos, and giraffes. Spectacular views surround the lake with hills and cliffs, which are home to hundreds of baboons.
The lake is home to thousands of the lesser and greater flamingos and has several rivers and streams emptying into it. The saline waters of the lake offer a thriving atmosphere of blue-green algae (spirulina platensis), which is the basic food for the lesser flamingos. Fish eating birds are also present which include the Cormorant, Great white pelicans and the African fish eagle.
Day 6: L. Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast depart through the floor of The Great Rift Valley. This is the longest rift in the crust of the earth. It is also referred to as the Gregory Rift Valley. You will b heading to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be at the Mara Wildebeest Camp in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at 1600hrs. Here you have good chance of spotting lions, elephants, cheetah and if you are lucky, the shy leopard. Return back for dinner and overnight at Mara Wildebeest Camp.
Masai Mara National Reserve
Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people. The Mara, as it’s popularly referred to, means "Spotted Plain" in the language of the Maasai, the colorful and interesting tribe which inhabits the surrounding areas. During the seasonal migrations, the Mara is home to up to half a million wildebeest and an equally impressive number of zebra who move into the area from neighboring Tanzania.
Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend full day of in this natural paradise of Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be among the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, antelope and gazelle. You should look forward to encounter prides of lion. They will either be hunting or resting in the shade of acacia trees or lying low in the tall grass. You can opt for a full day game drive with picnic lunch boxes. Alternatively morning and afternoon game drives at 0630hrs and 1600hrs respectively can be another option. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti and its rolling plains are home to hundreds of plains game together with predators that feed on them. You will have all your meals and overnight at Mara Wildebeest Camp.
Day 8: Masai Mara – Nairobi
